O ld Enough To Know Better

Beth Sholom is proud of the successes of its first social group, Old Enough to Know Better - aimed at our 60 years and older members, their spouses, companions and partners.   This group continues to plan special events to appeal specifically to their demographic.   A Steering Committee has been hard at work organizing their structure and brainstorming idea of interesting, entertaining and fun programming.   The long term plan is to have quarterly programs of relevance and interest.  If you are interested in working on the Steering Committee in the future or have ideas for programs you would like to see planned, please contact Dot Bilsky.

Dinner and Music with the Boomers

Beth Sholom’s Old Enough to Know Better hosted an evening with the Boomers on Sunday, June 5th.  In addition to a wonderful fried chicken dinner, guests enjoyed 50’s music by The Boomers and many people came dressed in decade appropriate attire.  There were poodle skirts, cat glasses, slicked back hair, and saddle oxfords throughout the room.  Three cheers for our Old Enough to Know Better planning committee and for Claudia and her famous fried chicken!

An Evening of Laughter and Chinese Buffet

On Thursday evening, March 11th, Old Enough to Know Better welcomed 120 guests to a special Chinese Buffet prepared by Ben Roberts, who served up egg drop soup, chicken and broccoli, fried rice and almond cookies.  After dinner, everyone enjoyed a special video presentation of the comedy stylings of Mal Z. Lawrence along with some classic Sid Caeser bits.  Everyone agreed that the food was tasty, the entertainment riveting and the company enjoyable.  Watch for more programs in the future.

BINGO NIGHT

Our Old Enough to Know Better Group welcomed over 120 people to Bingo Night on Thursday evening, August 14th.   Lewis Kay was our Bingo Caller and Betty Green managed to bring in donations of close to 50 restaurant gift cards as prizes for the winners.  Joan Newman did a fabulous job of making the room look festive and the food committee arranged for snack foods on all of the tables, along with root beer floats and popcorn, straight out of our old fashioned popcorn machine.  In addition to bingo, everyone enjoyed socializing with friends.

Catskills Comedy Night

On Sunday evening, November 16th, approximately 175 people who should be Old Enough to Know Better arrived at Beth Grossingers for a traditional Catskills Mountain evening.  Everyone enjoyed a New York style deli supper with corned beef and turkey sandwiches, cole slaw and potato salad, pickles and sauerkraut.  After dinner, hearty laughter filled the room in response to  videos of famous Catskills comedians.  Everyone agreed that Freddie Roman was the hit of the night!
