Tikkun Olam

It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it

לֹא עָלֶיךָ הַמְּלָאכָה לִגְמֹר, וְלֹא אַתָּה בֶן חוֹרִין לִבָּטֵל מִמֶּנָּה

-Pirke Avot 2:16

At Beth Sholom, we take tremendous pride in our involvement in the broader community. We hope you will join us to take part in these initiatives and events. If you have any questions about our Tikkun Olam programming, please reach out to Vera Feldman.

  • Team Read

Come join the volunteers from Beth Sholom along with the Kiwanis of Germantown who will again be working with 2nd graders at Germantown Elementary School to enhance their reading skills. Your one hour a week can make a tremendous difference in the lives of these students. Looking for both once a week coaches and substitutes. Click below for more information.

  • Coleman Coat Drive

Each year, we take part in keeping our friends at Coleman Elementary warm. Many students are not able to afford a coat that keeps them warm. Over 380 coats are needed to keep the Coleman students warm this winter. Please open your hearts and donate NEW coats or cash. Please click below for more information and to make your generous donation.

  • Harvest for the Hungry

There is no fresh fruit in the JFS Food Pantry during the months that the Agricenter's Farmers Market is closed. In response to this need, we are relaunching our "Harvest for the Hungry" program so the Food Pantry can have fresh fruit all year round. Our goal is a total of 96 pieces of fruit each week to nourish the hungry in our community. Click below to help.

  • Room in the Inn

Beth Sholom is proud to partner with Room in the Inn Memphis, serving as a host site for people experiencing homelessness during the winter months. We provide hot meals and safe overnight shelter for 15 women and children. There are several ways to help, please click below for more information.

  • Coleman Gift Shop

Stay tuned for information about our annual Coleman Gift Shop! For this special event, we take donations of either cash or small items that students can pick out to give as a Christmas gift to a parent or other important adult in their lives. Join us for the Gift Shop at Coleman elementary in mid-December.
